Be Bold

I wanted something to write on my wall, something that was clear and stated a personal truth. The end result is this piece which, while not exactly what is on my wall, I enjoy.

Big Blue Belts Out

Posted by Otto Robba in Design on 13. Apr, 2010 | No Comments

Design made for shirt.woot. Original theme was ‘Blue’. From this I derived the classic picture of the singing whale, in this case, singing the blues ;)
Waiting for them to review it, takes up to two months. Figers crossed, I like this design and I’d love to see it printed by them :D

Media Study

Posted by Otto Robba in Sketches & Studies on 16. Mar, 2010 | No Comments

I was inspired and looking forward to practicing with inkpens, so I got a photo for reference and started sketching. Mainly a material and technique study. The lady in the picture had beautiful eyes which I, unfortunately could not reproduce properly and the paper did bleed quite a bit which drove me kinda crazy. Note to self: Even when studying, never, ever, EVER use paper that contains cotton. Lesson learned, of that I have no doubt.

Comic Book Study

I will be straightforward: I love comic books. That said, I have had this story laying around for a while and it is bugging me to get out. In order to practice and see what style would work for it, I started trying. This is one of the results.

I have no idea yet if this is the style I’m gonna go with for the comic book I intend to write but nevertheless, sketching, thinking, researching are all important parts in the process of creating.

For me, art is all about communication, finding and giving meaning when most would not see. To make people feel from words unspoken, to imagine entire worlds through simple literary passages.

My dream is to be able to, should I ever be so lucky, create a piece of work that lives far beyond myself.
